As a child, Oken Saber Armory founder Tal-Ki Oken began studying sabercraft after a fateful encounter with an enigmatic sage. With this guidance, he began learning about the nature of the Force, the duty of decent people to advance peace and, to these ends, the practical and symbolic role of the saber.
Traditionally, such weapons were used exclusively by the Guardians of the Force, whose esoteric practices and lightsaber construction methods remained opaque to the people. It was assumed that these arts were inaccessible to the masses and that the skills needed to wield the sabers effectively and responsibly could not be cultivated outside the institutions and apprenticeships of the Guardians.
At Oken, we believe that our times require new traditions— that our calling is toward a greater collective discipleship of the unseen but omnipresent universal power. We believe the Force does not disclose itself only to those raised and trained in temples, does not hide itself from the hearts and minds of the people.
Instead, the Force reveals itself to anyone earnestly seeking to understand it.
This belief is reflected in our name, “Oken”, which comes from the Creere word for “the people”. Founder Tal-Ki Oken adopted this word as his surname and has named his armory the same as a reminder of his mission.
The study of sabercraft, as well as the meditative integration of mind and body which this accompanies, has proven an invaluable praxis for those seeking to understand and express the nature of the Force. The lightsaber is an ancient, sacred tool which has for eons belonged in the hands of those who would stand for peace and justice.
Oken Saber Armory means to put these tools in the hands of the upright people— all those who seek— and to advance the art, the discipline of the saber.
